Saena

The Saena are legendary Great Beasts who have no specific appearance and conceptions of the creature can vary drastically even between scholars. They are known to have had use of magic and in small groups were a match for the dragons of the First Age.

Physical Considerations
The only knowledge of the appearance of the Great Beasts is in the legacy they leave behind in their children, the Gryphons and Rukhs (Large birds of prey). A fair description would be a Gryphon with the size and might of a small Dragon.
Cyradon History
Little is known of the Saena these days except the Gryphons and Rukhs are their direct descendents who continue to speak the ancient Saena Language. It is also believed the Gryx and Aoifer share some ancestry with the Saena.
Ancient History
It is believed by scholars that the Saena came to Mithra during the First Age (The Age of the Dragons) and were involved in a great war with the dragons which ended the Dragons dominance over life of Mithra. They are believed to have been created by the ancient gods shortly after or at the same time as the Dragons.
In The Second Age (The Age of the Saena) the Great Beasts ruled over the sky, land and oceans of Mithra for millennia until the appearance of the Mithirans (after whom the continent was latter named). These new people that walk the land soon lead the Saena into a second great war, this one is believed to have torn the continent apart, forming The Shattering and Cyradon itself.
After the War the Saena and the Mithranas sign a truce and left the world to the younger races, their decedents. A few remained behind as guardians. So starts the Third Age (The age of the Emperors).
Game Statistics
The Saena are an ancient and powerful race and little is known about them, they are called the Great Beasts for a reason.
